(1846-1900), Novelist and short-story writer, one of the leading intellectuals of the 'Generation of 1870'. Eça de Queirós introduced naturalism and realism to Portuguese literature. He is considered the major novelist of his generation.

@Teresa Durães: :)))) Teresa, sabes que não consegui encontrar informação sobre os autores das ditas? Depois de muitas voltas só consegui descobrir que a do Fernão Lopes foi esculpida pelo Joaquim Martins Correia. A BN não tem nada sobre o assunto, ou então eu não consegui dar com ela. An interesting series of images taken in a pleasant warm light. They look quite modern sculptures... when were they cut, what sort of rock?

@Scotfot: Hi Bob! As i told Teresa could not find information on the statues except for the Fernão Lopes. The sculptor was Joaquim Martins Correia (1910-1999) and the rock pink granite. I also don't known about dates. Just that the building of National Library of Portugal, where the statues are, was inaugurated in 1969. Thank you very much. :)
